Fall Retreat

posted Oct 2, 2009, 9:24 AM by Matthew Moravec

For the first two days of fall break, we're going to head out of town to beautiful Stephen F. Austin State Park and explore what it means to be a "loving and engaging community that is growing in dependence on God and participation in His mission."

That means there's going to be plenty of time to have fun with friends, seek God together, and of course rest after a busy first half to this semester!

The cost is $20 and covers one night's stay at the park, two days of park fees, and food while we're there. Cash or check to Campus Crusade for Christ are both accepted. If money would be the only thing keeping you from coming, please know scholarships are available (contact moravec@rice.edu for more information).

We'll meet at the Sallyport at 10:30am on Saturday and be back Sunday evening around 6pm.

What to bring:
--sleeping bag (and something soft to put it on, if you can)
--toiletries
--football/frisbee/games of your choice for free time
--swimsuit (some people will probably swim in the river)
--Bible

RSVP at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=143874899519

Notes on the facility:
The park has restrooms and showers. We will have a large screened "recreational hall" where we'll eat and have our group times. You can sleep on the floor in the hall, or bring a tent to set up outside if you prefer.

Freshmen women's brunch

posted Sep 18, 2009, 8:05 AM by Matthew Moravec

Hey girls,

We wanted to give you an opportunity to meet and get to know each other better.

So if you're interested, come to the Sallyport on Saturday at 10:30 am to travel to Le Peep in the village for some nice girl-bonding. There will be rides, but you will need to bring money to pay for whatever food you order. Saturday morning is also Target shuttle time, so we'll have rides for anyone who needs to go to Target after brunch as well.

Please email marygrace@rice.edu if you plan on attending (though feel free to show up last minute), and let her know if you want to drive. Also, invite your friends!

We've got a different schedule this weekend!

THE Overnighter

posted Sep 3, 2009, 12:06 PM by Agape Rice

Shortly after Large Group on Friday we will be heading to Chappell Hill, Texas for our yearly overnighter. We'll be staying on a large property with two large guest houses. Amenities include a resort-style swimming pool and lighted tennis court.

We will be officially finished late-morning on Saturday, but there will be an extravaganza of fun activities Saturday early-afternoon for those who wish to stay a few hours longer.

The purpose of the overnighter is to have a fun time in fellowship with each other! So plan on coming and encouraging both new and old Agapeople friends to come as well!

What to bring:
--Toiletries
--Bible
--Sleeping bag, if possible

Optional:
--Swimsuit if you want to swim
--Tennis racquet, if you want to play tennis
--Any items like Frisbee, cards, board games

For the adventurous:
You can bring a tent because there is plenty of space around the cabins for people to camp-out. You can check them out at the Rec center if you don't own one but still want to be adventurous.

Churches in Houston

posted Aug 25, 2009, 9:06 PM by Jon Endean   [ updated Aug 27, 2009, 6:24 PM ]

I've compiled a list of churches that Rice students have reported going to. You can find that list in the sidebar or by clicking here. Listed is some major info that hopefully will prove useful in deciding on a church to visit (and hopefully ultimately become a part of). This list is not static, so let me (Jon Endean) know if you want your church to be added or if something changes about your church.

Note: The attachments on this announcement have been moved to a permanent location on the sidebar.
